Born in Baltimore with deep roots in New York and Jamaica, Royal Z’s interest in music started at the age of four beginning with the violin and continuing with the study of multiple instruments.
His immersion in soul music, funk, reggae, jazz, folk, hip hop and blues continues to this day and influences his own work which spans multiple genres including pop, hip hop, reggae/dancehall, reggaeton, Afrobeat, R&B and rock. A musical chameleon known for churning out anthem-like tracks, his distinctive production elements include a tastefully rare blend of multiple instruments, modern production techniques and styles which allow him to occupy a unique space in today’s music scene. A true producer’s producer, he is involved in all parts of production from composition to mastering, his commitment to his craft is easily identifiable.
Recent releases include “American Dream” by Olivia Lunny, “Unwanted Lifestyle” by NoCap, “Catch Up” on the critically acclaimed Chloe x Halle album Ungodly Hour featuring Swae Lee, Maja Kristina’s “The Idea of Me” on Republic records and Kat Dahlia’s “I’m Doing Good.” Z has worked with artists such as Bryce Vine, MASN, India Shawn, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Fifth Harmony, Swae Lee, Chloe x Halle, Mike WiLL Made-It, Ne-Yo, Macy Gray, K. Michelle, Kat Dahlia, Kanye West and others. He has written tracks for film, including songs for Birth of a Nation Inspired By (2016) and featured in multiple t.v. shows. His frequent collaborators include Poo Bear, Bibi Bourelly, Lil Aaron, Joe Kirkland, PLUSS, Jim Lavigne among others.
Royal Z is the Founder/CEO of Humbled Soul Music and is managed by Chelsea Avery and Lucas Keller of Milk & Honey.
